Pale Horseman – Bless the Destroyer

Here is a review of Pale Horseman I did back in 2015!

Plug.

Have you ever daydreamed about walking through some cold, dark, musty catacombs in search for treasure?  If not, you either never watched any Indiana Jones movies as a kid, or you are a filthy liar, or maybe you just do not have as much of a vivid imagination as I do.  Well, if I WAS to go catacomb spelunking, my choice of soundtrack would be Pale Horseman, specifically their newest release, “Bless the Destroyer”.

Freezing, atmospheric, sludgy, muddy, and groovy are perfect ways to describe this album.  A really powerful junior release here.  Eric Ondo and Andre Almaraz’s vocals are completely on point and really shine.  Lets break this album down track by track, shall we?

Clear the Throne, a great track that grabs you by the balls from the get go, looks you straight in the eye and says, “Yeah, youre gonna love this shit.” while smashing those nuts.  It does not let go until this track is over.  Punishing riffs and a sludgy groove that is catchy and haunting.

Caverns of the Templar.  Makes me want to hire an excavation team to find out where these Templars have buried their gold.  This is my favorite track on this album.  The chorus really stuck with me, love the clean singing on this one.  It reminds me of when i was a kid, and Id have my mom rent me the VHS tape of “Dragonslayer”, and id watch it on repeat until I fell asleep.  Very medieval sounding track.

Pineal Awakening.  Ok this is one of those bass heavy tracks that you just smile and headbang to.  Chug Chug Chug.

Bastard Child.  Clocking in at 15:10, this is the epic journey of this release.  Cool track to zone out to or to put on as background music while you’re doing your daily duties or working.

Olduvai Gorge.  I love the vocals on this track.  Excellent way to end the album.

Unplug.
